I attended Airship "C" School 1948-49, and served in ZP 2 in Lakehurst and Key West 1948 to 1950; ZP 3 in 1953-54, and played on the NAS baseball team. Eventually retired from the Navy and Naval Reserve and the New York Naval Militia as RADM in 1989. Would like to hear from any team mates from the 1954 season, if they are still alive.

I spent over 5 years at Lakehurst between being a PR student and PR Instructor. I am so happy that NAS Lakehurst has someone to keep the memories for people like us to see. I hated Lakehurst while I was there, but now know it was a great place to live and be stationed. Sure wish I knew that then. Long live the memories and thank you for preserving them and putting them into a format we all can access so easily.

Great site, really sets the stage regarding the history of LTA and Lakehurst's connection. I had the privledge to get a personal tour of the base, Hangar 1, high mast site, and surrounding landmarks by Kevin Pace back in August 1992; what a wealth of information! After being a rigid LTA buff since the mid 1970s, it was great to see all the information I learned come to live at the place where so much of it happened. (As a 15-year old, I even convinced my family to trek to Lakehurst in 1978 during a family vacation to Williamsburg VA ... from Cincinnati, OH! Now's THAT'S a diversion! Didn't get to go on the base, though.) My thanks to Mr Pace and all associated with NLHS for keeping the history alive. Hope the current world situation permits the opening of the base to public tours again soon.

I was recalled to active duty at the time of the Cuban Missle Crisis (October 1962) and assigned to NARTU, stationed in hangar #6, for two years (1962-64). I worked with LCDR Claude Macon who had been a blimp pilot. I came upon this website while "reminiscing." It brings back lots of memories. I appreciate what you are doing.

Dr. Carl Victor Green Jr. was my father. Unfortunately, he died when I was too young to hear his stories about the Hindenberg. Learning more about this tragic event and his part in it was very important to me personally.

My Uncle, Lt. Carl Victor Green, Jr., was the Naval Air Station base physician on May 6, 1937, the day of the Hindenburg disaster. I wept as I read the statements made by my wonderful Uncle Carl. What a privilege for me to be able to read those statements on your site! I did not realize that his son, Robert N. Green, my 1st Cousin, was also there that day to witness that terrible event! Robert N. Green went on to become a Physician. He is now seventy- nine years old, and lives in Southern California.) Thank You, for your excellent website!

I graduated from PR "A" School in 1968 and have many fond memories of my days at NAS Lakehurst. I distinctly remember being assigned "fire-watch" duty in Hangar One during the dead of night. As an eighteen year old, it was kind of spooky. Thank you for the opportunity to remember some of the best days of my life.

I was looking for more information on Ernst Lehmann, who happened to be my maternal grandfather's first cousin. My grandfather, Frederick Lehmann, died in 1963 when i was only 17 and, regretfully never had the chance to get the story first hand from him. I am very interested to find out as much as I can about him (Ernst) because of the blood relationship. Stumbled onto this site (I am now 57 and am getting around on the computer a bit) If you know of any sites that can give our family some personal info about him, we would all appreciate it.

Way back in middle schoole, we had a unit on Ohio history. The teacher brought in a piece of real history: a hand-sized piece of the Shenandoah. I have been an LTA fan ever since.

A real stroll back in time as I remember Blimps on Atlantic Ocean patrol during WW2. Must have been 3/4 years old and some would drift over from Long Beach on their way home to Lakehurst.I lived in Island Park, a small sea community on the south shore. Most of the men and older boys were in service or working at defense jobs; a lot of the women too. Not much activity for a tot until one day a Blimp that dropped behind the formation{3 others} made an abrupt right hand turn and flew over the yard I was playing in. A wave from a little kid was acknowledged by another turn, this time to the left and again to the right. My Mom came running out of our house just in time to see this wonderful moment in time.

Was stationed @ NAEC Branch Clinic 1982-1984--Was priviledged to provide medical care for a number of retired Airshipmen--I imagine most are deceased now,as they were in their 80's 20 yrs ago-I was given a number of old photos ,which I would be happy to copy--It was a fascinating tour, and always a pleasure to here the old gentlemen's stories--Tried to learn all I could & passed it on to young sailors every chance I got.

I joined a reserve anti-sub squadron, VS-752, at Lakehurst on my 18th birthday in July of 1957, and went through bootcamp there in the summer of 1958. Among the many good memories of that time is going on a hop to Wilmington and back in a blimp for an airshow there. Oh yes, and Sargeant Baker and Corporal King, our Marine Corps drill instructors. It was a great time.

Upon my Return from the Pacific Theatre of War January 1946, After re-enlisting for two years, I was assigned to the Marine Guard Detachment from March 1946 to November 1947.. Upon my discharge , living in New Jersey, I revisited Lakehurst during the 1950's only yto see that U,.S.Marines no longer provided security. I was on duty a Sgt of the Guard at about noon one day when a commercial plane with emgine trouble tried to land at the NAS, but crashed in the cranberry bogs off the base. I enjoyed my days there especially when my son was born on the base.
